BekaertDeslee Supports Ocean Cleanup

BekaertDeslee-Sequal

BekaertDeslee turns plastics recovered from the ocean into yarns used in mattress textiles.

Textile and sewn covers supplier BekaertDeslee, with world headquarters in Waregem, Belgium, is taking steps to help clean up the world’s oceans.

The company is working with Seaqual, an organization that pays fishermen from the Spanish coasts of the Mediterranean Sea to collect garbage and bring it ashore. Materials that are collected, including aluminum, metal, glass and plastic, go to their own unique recycling chain. BekaertDeslee takes the plastics found in the ocean and upcycles them into new yarns that are used to produce mattress textiles and covers.

BekaertDeslee introduced the Seaqual initiative to the bedding industry at Interzum Guangzhou March 28-31 in Guangzhou, China, and will feature it at Interzum Cologne May 21-24 in Cologne, Germany.
